Howard Lederer - The Professor
Poker legends are not born, they are made. And Howard Lederer just happens
to be one of them. He was born on Oct. 30, 1964 in Concord, New Hampshire.
Through the many twists and turns that have been put in Lederer's journey
in life and toward being the poker superstar that he is today, he has remained
yet another strong force with an imminent and ever present hold on the game.
While he may not be the most aggressive player around, he has shown that
he can hold his own in a game and put up a fight when the going gets tough.
Known for his serious demeanor at the table, Lederer has an appearance that
could seem intimidating to some at first.
Despite his appearance though, he is a very intelligent man and is a poker
player that can hold his own and go at it with the best of them. As a young
man, Howard always seemed to be into different games here and there, particularly
chess, which he excelled in. He then took a liking to poker while he was
still in his late teens and decided to pursue it. Once he got a hold of
how to play and navigate the game, he played for literally hours on end
weekly with other poker players.
Playing poker as a young man would soon be only the beginning of what was
going to come for him once he started winning much bigger tournaments and
games and then onto playing with poker greats. Though he put much time into
poker in the beginning, he would leave the tables with little to no cash
left. But this would soon come to change once he got the hang of perfecting
his game. While still a young man trying to improve his poker game, he would
make extra cash on the side by doing tasks for other poker players so that
he could join the games.
Tweaking his poker techniques and methods helped over time. Some people
may not be aware that poker runs through Lederer's blood since his sister,
Annie Duke, is a pro poker player as well. As Howard started off on his
poker journey, it was far from perfect, yet after a few years, everything
would soon change. He spent a lot of time in New York playing the tables
and going at it with the best of them. Howard did not just go into the game
thinking it was a breeze, he knows everything can be lost with the flick
of a card. Between the years of 2002-2008, he has accumulated a slew of
wins and victories that are notable. To date, Lederer has added millions
of dollars to his portfolio and has played against many different poker
greats that he has earned the respect of since becoming a serious player.
Howard shows no signs of stopping his poker career for anyone anytime soon.
So far, Howard Lederer has won two World Series of Poker Bracelets, which
is an impressive accomplishment indeed.
